Unrepaired DNA damage can be resolved before entering mitosis through activation of Underreplicated DNA ( Saldivar et al., 2018). S/G 2 cell cycle checkpoint to prevent progression of cells with (dNTP) production and resolution of stalled RFs via fork regression and restartĪnd/or DNA repair, thus maintaining genomic stability ( Berti and Vindigni, 2016). Including RF protection from nucleases, decreased global replication origin firing,Īctivation of the RRM2 component of ribonucleotide reductase for deoxy-nucleotide ssDNA activates a multi-faceted ATR-dependent RS response Potentially lead to RPA exhaustion resulting in replication catastrophe in S phase Polymerase with a subsequent increase in single strand DNA (ssDNA) that can Stalled RF decouple replicative helicase from Oncogene-induced RS, withĪssociated hyperproliferation and excessive replication origin firing, causesĪccumulation of single strand break (SSB) as well as double strand breaks (DSBs) asĪ consequence of stalling and collapse of replication forks (RFs) ( Branzei and Foiani, 2010 Burrell et al., 2013). Marketing slogans such as “free range” and “sow stall free”, designed to appeal to a public more openly concerned with animal welfare while meaning very little to the animals themselves, are not the answer.Aberrant DNA damage responses (DDR) and replication stress (RS) result inĪccumulation of DNA damage contributing to tumor initiation and progression ( Dobbelstein and Sorensen, 2015 Macheret and Halazonetis, 2015 O’Connor, 2015).
The emergence of factory farms and high-speed slaughter lines, where cruelty and suffering are not only inevitable but considered acceptable and routine by those who profit from them, can be attributed entirely to consumer demand. Consumers deserve to see what modern Australian farms and slaughterhouses look like, especially when they’re being told that such places are ethical and humane. The fact that they regularly fund this cruelty with their purchases of animal products (see the documentary Dominion) suggests that they do so unintentionally.Īt the very least, they deserve the opportunity to make an informed decision, to see more than the image presented to them by the animal agriculture industry, of happy animals frolicking in the sunshine before willingly surrendering their lives. We believe that most Australians consider themselves animal lovers, and are opposed to animal cruelty. You can also submit information about any facility already marked, and upload photos, videos and documents relating to that facility.įarm Transparency Project does not condone or encourage the use of this resource for illegal purposes including trespass, or for any use contrary to our core values. If you find a facility that hasn't been marked, you can login, right-click the facility on the map and choose to submit it for approval. We believe in freedom of information as a powerful tool in the fight against animal abuse and exploitation. This map, linked with the Farm Transparency Project Repository, is an effort to force transparency on an industry dependent on secrecy. In development for over 8 years, the Farm Transparency Map is a comprehensive, interactive map of factory farms, slaughterhouses and other animal exploitation facilities across Australia, launched publicly by Farm Transparency Project (formerly Aussie Farms) in January 2019.
